Text Messaging Being Part Of Daily Routines

Text messaging, or texting is the term used for the sending of short text messages from mobile phones using the Short Message Service (SMS). It contains 160 characters or fewer, including spaces and is available on most digital mobile phones and some personal digital assistants with on-board wireless telecommunications. The individual messages which are sent are called text messages, or in the more colloquial text speak texts.

There are so many reasons why people of different places preferred SMS instead of sending emails or making calls. But despite the rapidly increasing rate of texters, there are also some who preferred emails more than SMS. Reasons of preferences may vary, some may choose emails and some may settle with SMS. Whatever form of communication they choose, surely they have number of reasons for it.

The following are some of the possible reasons why people are used to sending SMS rather than other communication forms. Personal researches were conducted to obtain results which are as follows:

ACCESSIBLE – Not everyone has a desktop or laptop computers to send emails to other people. That means not everyone has an email account, especially those who are living in rural areaa where are times are hard and the connection signal, as well.

CHEAP RATES – Sending SMS do not require huge amount of money like what we spend talking to our relatives or coulleagues. Once we run out of cellphone loads, communication will suddenly stop but can be resumed the moment your cellphone is loaded again. In using phones, it is quite difficult for one to end a conversation. You will just find out at the end of the day that your telephone bills reached the highest limit of your history!

DELAY RESPONSES – In SMS, we can delay our responses to certain messages. Say, if you are not yet in your normal mood to talk or communicate with other people, you may respond to them the moment you desire to do so. Let’s give the same credit to email technoly but then, again, not everyone has an email account to receive your letters.

CONSTANT COMMUNICATIONS – Exchanging SMS will definitely build a very good communication to texters if they will just open the line in between them. Continuously sending and receiving messages will create a good relationship. There were many testimonies that they have found their lovedones through texting and I am proud to say I’m one of them.

QUICK RESPONSES – Responses via SMS is quicker than those of email and other forms of comunciation. You can easily reply to people within a minute! And they can get back to you in less than a minute too! Quite good, right?

PROMOTIONAL BENEFITS – We usually enjoy promotional benefits of different cellphone networks. Every communication network doesn’t stop from launching different promos and we, as consumers are the ones enjoying it. Some are having unlimited texting, calls and the like where the consumer has to enroll his load to the unlimited service.

But of course, despite the advantages, there are also disadvantages that we encounter in texting. Moreover, these are just minimal disadvantages that wont harm, anyway.

How can i know the recipients phone number of a forwarded sms / text message. In emails you can view other people who have recieved the same forwarded message as you did but how does this work in Cell Phone sms/text messages?

At one time I set up a notification so that when I received an email from a particular email address, I automatically got a text message on my phone alerting me to that. I cannot remember how to set that up!! Help!!

Aside from calling, text messaging is the feature getting the greatest use on most cell phones and probably the primary reason for higher than expected bills. With the cost of sending a domestic message around $.15 and receiving one approximately $.10 with the typical cell phone plan, an avid user can rack up an exorbitant bill within days.

Customers have struggled to reign in the costs. Individuals and families have instituted “call, don’t text” rules within their household, only to find that received text messages still send them over the edge. In some instances, users have been able to block texting from their service but then miss the privacy and the efficiency that texting offers. Many families have tried to quell an adolescent’s texting excess by making teens responsible for their own texting costs while others provide only prepaid services to assure that usage is held in check.

However, an answer to the cost of the burgeoning use of text messaging which may create greater family harmony while allowing consumers to make full use of the feature may come from the cellular providers. Increasingly, the major players in the telecommunications industry are providing cell phone plans which offer options that will cap texting expenses. Cell phone plans which include unlimited texting features are increasingly common while adding on a more predictable $10 to $20 per month to the plan cost.

All “unlimited texting” cell phone plans however are not necessarily equal and consumers will need to shop to find the plan that fits their usage. The following items are some of the major things to consider when comparing plans:

• How much texting is used?

If a consumer only sends/receives a few hundred messages per month, the cellular provider probably offers a texting feature with a cap at 200, 300, or 500 messages which will be less expensive than a cell phone plan that offers no limit on texting.

• Does the unlimited plan include out of network messaging?

Many now do but some can be limited to messages only within the same network.

• Does the unlimited plan include just texting?

Some of the newer unlimited texting cell phone plans include not only texting but also picture and video messaging which is an important distinction for those who use such features routinely.

• Is there a data transfer cap?

Some “unlimited” plans actually cap the amount of data transferred and will charge additional for amounts that exceed the cap.

• Will unlimited texting apply to all lines?

For those who have multiple lines within their cell phone plan, it is important to know if all lines are covered.

• Is international text messaging included in the unlimited messaging?

In many cases it will not be, and the average $.35 cost per sent message can be a rude surprise if consumers are caught unaware.

• Can you discontinue unlimited text messaging at any time?

In some cases, the unlimited messaging is an add-on feature and it can be dropped to reduce the expense at any time. In other instances, the unlimited messaging is part of the cell phone plan itself. Some carriers allow consumers to switch plans at will, while others do not. Consumers just need to know what flexibility they will or will not have during the contract period.

The Short Message Service (SMS), more usually known as the text messaging and is currently the most used mobile phone service. Frantic wrist action is enjoyed around the globe, even to the point of etiquette, as consumers are spotted texting in restaurants and bars, at weddings and in meetings or in short in every occasion of life. The semi-anonymity of ‘text’ seems the vital factor of its high altitude popularity, as it provides a comfortable amount of distance, but allows almost instant way of communication. The world of SMS is growing so rapidly that many people are of the opinion that text will overtake talk as the most cost-effective form of communication. It could be argued that a great percentage of mobile users find “text” easier and perhaps less embarrassing to articulate their thoughts in a more profound manner. Many intimate confessions can be communicated by text, including the recent escapades of Paris Hilton and Charlotte Church.

The recent research suggests that introverts prefer texting as they have the opportunity to think about what to express, removing the pressure of articulating an instance response. Some users also find text a useful time-saving medium by removing the opportunity for small-talk session. With text, the mobile users can get straight to the point, much praised by people who simply do not enjoy talking on the phone for a long.

Text opportunities are really endless. The Live 8 ticket lottery was a very high profile use of text messaging. Over 26 million people from different walks of life took part in the text messaging campaign this month to support the work of Live 8. Throughout the concerts, viewers were urged to send SMS consisting of their names in order to strengthen the message sent to the acclaimed world leaders. As text is such a convenient and potential option, many believe that this campaign was more successful than the conventional phone-in campaign would have been. The appeal posed little threat for the public viewers, who sitting in the comfort of their own homes, could easily reach for their mobile phone and interact with the Live 8 campaign in a lively manner. Furthermore, the lucky concert attendees were encouraged to send a quick text in among dancing to the live acts. As this took very little time and effort the response rate to the text appeal was really phenomenal.

There are many companies who are eager to exploit entertainment products and packages through mobile phones. The infotainment industry, particularly radio and reality TV shows, is continuing to cash in on this popular method of communication by engaging more and more viewers to text in and express their opinion. Hit TV shows, such as Big Brother, Pop Idol and Celebrity Love Island, are inundated with freely expressed texts from the public wishing to save their favourite person. Other media companies promote the text messaging as a convenient way to enter competitions. Text messages ease the tedious routine of entering a competition via the costly phone call, where engaged lines and automated instructions are inevitable. The SMS messages are also faster and less hassle than snail mail and often more cost-effective.

The most advanced form of text messaging, dubbed the XHIBIT, involves witnesses in criminal court cases automatically receiving a text when they are due to appear in the court of law. Many have a positive nod this easy method, claiming it effectively reduces the time witnesses of crime have to spend waiting around in court. This is also in place to support the police force and investigating agency, who claim that less time is wasted in the court through this advanced technology. Research suggests that XHIBIT text could save 80,000 police days on an average per year.
