Using yahoo instant messenger to send text message to person in europe?

Is it possible to send a text message from my computer to a cell phone number in Europe. I am in Kansas and my husband is in Germany and i am trying to send him a text from yahoo IM and every time I enter the mobile number it is supposed to go to, it says that the message can’t be sent to that mobile number. Is it even possible to do this? Or are Germany cell numbers not supported..
